No 6 Restaurant Up The Hill: Best Food & Patong Views
Overview of No 6 Restaurant Up the Hill
No 6 Restaurant Up the Hill is one of Patong’s best-kept secrets for combining classic Thai cuisine with spectacular views. Situated on the northern hill of Patong Beach along Phrabaramee Road—at an elevation of 110 meters above sea level—it has become an extremely popular destination among tourists looking for memorable dining experiences.
Unlike its tiny, super-busy sister branch—also named No 6 Restaurant—down on Rat-U-Thit Road, this hill location gives you all the space to breathe and relax while enjoying the exact same tasty menu.
Pro Tip for Visitors: If you don’t have your own vehicle, ask about the restaurant’s free shuttle service connecting the original downtown Patong branch to the hilltop location. Plan to arrive around 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM to catch the beautiful evening sky over Patong bay and see the city lights turn on before having dinner!
The entire structure is built seamlessly into the hillside using natural wood, stone elements, and warm ambient lighting.
Layout & Atmosphere: Exploring the Hillside Venue
Built seamlessly into the natural contours of the mountain, the restaurant’s multi-level structure offers a unique mix of rustic wooden spaces, intimate corners, and open terrace dining.
The Main Entrance & Cozy Nooks
The moment you arrive, the entrance immediately sets a warm, welcoming vibe. Right at the center, a wide stone staircase with 10 steps leads you up into the heart of the venue, flanked by wooden handrails and glowing lanterns mounted on timber posts. If you prefer, there is also a smooth access ramp running along the left side of the stairs. Hanging high above under the roof frame, an illuminated sign reads “Fresh Seafood Market” to welcome guests.
Private Pavilion Dining Area
Located right next to the entrance ramp, you’ll find the very first seating option: a charming wooden gazebo sheltered under a traditional Thai-tiled roof with dark timber pillars. It houses a large polished wooden table flanked by matching long benches, perfect for a group of 8 to 10 people. I find this cozy, semi-private pavilion absolutely ideal for groups of friends or families who want to sit together, relax, and share family-style Thai dishes while enjoying a direct view of the glowing Patong cityscape below.
The Lower Wooden Terrace & Retro Songthaew
Just past the private pavilion sits a beautiful lower wooden terrace featuring a total of 10 tables arranged in two distinct rows. One row lines the inner side of the terrace, while the prime outer row sits directly along the carved wooden railing, offering clear, breathtaking panoramic views over Patong.
Right at the very end of this edge-side row, you’ll find the last table—a prime spot positioned right next to a fun, retro wooden songthaew silhouette styled as an iconic seating display. Marked with a glowing “NUMBER 6” sign and warm string lights, it adds a fantastic touch of local Thai charm right against the open skyline.
The Upper Main Terrace & Mountain Breeze
As you step onto the second and larger open-air terrace, the space really opens up. Outfitted with sturdy wooden tables and long benches, it’s illuminated by rows of warm, glowing pendant lamps strung overhead. Eating here under the starry evening sky, listening to the gentle sound of the stream trickling down from the mountain below, while enjoying the refreshing cool breeze flowing off the hillside creates an unbeatable dining atmosphere.
The Illustrated Wall Map
Adding a unique artistic character to this upper deck, one of the side walls features a colorful hand-painted mural set alongside framed vintage photos. The artwork displays a stylized map of the Patong area—shaped in a bold, curving number “6” winding through lush green mountains and blue coastal waters. Key landmarks like Bangla Road, Rat Uthit 200 Pee Road, and Prametta Road are clearly labeled, complete with the restaurant’s iconic songthaew logo right at its center. It’s a creative touch that pays homage to the restaurant’s local roots.
The Terrace Bar & Guest Facilities
Tucked neatly into the back inner corner of this upper terrace, right alongside the dining tables, you’ll find a charming open-air bar counter set beneath a traditional tiled wooden roof. Fully stocked with spirits and glowing under warm overhead lights, it serves the surrounding deck area, making it an ideal spot to order a refreshing drink or post-dinner cocktail. Just behind the bar area, the restaurant also provides clean and convenient guest restrooms, conveniently separated for men and women.
The moment I sat down, the menu cover immediately caught my eye. It features a stylish sketch frame of sea elements—crabs, lobsters, squids, and fish—surrounding the iconic “NUMBER 6 PATONG EST. 1985” emblem with its classic songthaew logo. Right at the bottom, I noticed the name “Lantakloy” written in red script.
I realized most visitors probably pass right over this word without knowing what it means, so I wanted to share a little local insight: Lantakloy (from the Thai Lan Tra-kloy) is the local name for this specific hilltop area in northern Patong. The word “Lan” translates to an open terrace or plateau, while “Takloy” refers to a wild mountain yam native to these hills—literally translating to “the plateau of the Takloy plant,” a very fitting nod to the elevated spot where I was sitting!
Once I opened it up, I saw just how well-organized and beautifully illustrated the menu actually is. Designed for effortless browsing, every page includes clear, vibrant photos of each dish accompanied by descriptions in Thai, English, and Chinese, along with clearly marked prices.
Phuket Local Dishes & Noodle Specialties
What really impressed me was finding a dedicated section for Phuket Local Dishes. As someone living on the island, seeing authentic southern specialties like Crab Curry with Noodles (Mee Hoon Gaeng Poo), Phuket Style Braised Pork Belly (Moo Hong), and Stir-Fried Melindjo Leaves with Egg (Ba Liang) on the menu was a huge plus. It shows they take pride in local flavors alongside standard Thai favorite dishes.
Right next to it, the Noodle Dishes section covers all the classic comfort foods. From traditional Pad Thai and Hokkien Fried Noodles to baked glass noodles with prawns or crab served in hot clay pots, there’s something for every noodle lover. Prices here remain exceptionally budget-friendly, starting as low as 80 to 100 THB depending on your chosen meat.
BBQ & Stir-Fried Specialties
Flipping through the pages, I noticed how well-structured the options are. The menu offers a wide variety of BBQ dishes, ranging from grilled pork neck and chicken to fresh squid, tiger prawns, and steamed crab.
The Stir-Fried section follows a very straightforward local formula: you simply pick your preferred stir-fry style—like Thai Chili Paste, Sweet & Sour, or Oyster Sauce—and pair it with your choice of protein (chicken, pork, beef, fish, shrimp, or crab).
Curry Specialties
The Curry section covers all the essentials of traditional Thai cuisine, showcasing iconic rich and aromatic dishes. On this page, you’ll find classic Green Curry, fragrant Massaman Curry, Stir-Fried Yellow Curry Powder, Spicy Curry, Panang Curry, and the vibrant Southern Thai Sour Curry.
Just like with the stir-fries, ordering is super simple: you select your favorite curry style and pair it with your choice of protein—chicken, pork, or beef (150 THB), fish fillet or squid (180 THB), or fresh shrimp, crab, and mixed seafood (200 to 250 THB).
Fish Dishes Specialties
Seafood lovers will particularly appreciate the extensive Fish Dishes pages, which feature whole fish prepared in almost every classic Thai style imaginable.
The left page highlights healthy steamed options served in traditional fish-shaped platters—such as the classic Steamed Fish with Lime (Pla Nueng Manao), Ginger, or Soy Sauce (450 THB each).
The right page offers a mouth-watering selection of deep-fried whole fish topped with aromatic sauces and herbs, including Fried Fish with Crispy Garlic & Pepper, Yellow Curry Powder, Sweet & Sour, or Tamarind Sauce (mostly priced at 420 THB).
In my experience, and it’s something I notice every single time I visit, European tourists especially love ordering these whole fish dishes. The combination of crispy or tender steamed fish with rich, colorful Thai sauces and fragrant herbs makes it a clear favorite around the tables—and an incredible variety for anyone wanting to experience authentic Thai seafood!
What to Order: Our Favorite Thai Dishes
After carefully browsing through the menu, we decided to treat ourselves to a delicious variety of Thai dishes. When dining out with friends in Thailand, ordering multiple shared plates is definitely the best approach—it allows everyone to sample a wide range of authentic flavors rather than limiting yourself to just one single meal.
I always encourage visitors to venture beyond the usual classics like Chicken Fried Rice or Pad Thai. While those are great, stepping out of your comfort zone and ordering dishes you’ve never tried before can lead to incredible culinary surprises!
Southern Thai Crab Curry with Rice Noodles (280 THB)
Known locally as Mee Gaeng Poo, this Southern Thai classic was an absolute must-order—it’s easily one of my all-time personal favorites! I was super excited to introduce it to my friends, as it was their very first time trying it.
Beautifully presented on a traditional bamboo tray, the dish features delicate rice vermicelli topped with crispy fried shallots and fresh herbs, served alongside a bowl of rich, velvety yellow crab curry made with aromatic coconut milk and kaffir lime leaves. You simply pour the luscious curry over the noodles, mix in some fresh bean sprouts, and dive in.
Safe to say, my friends fell in love with it on the first bite—in fact, they enjoyed it so much that we ended up ordering a second plate right away!
Tom Yum Seafood (180 THB)
No trip to Thailand is complete without savoring Tom Yum Goong / Talay, arguably the country’s most iconic soup. We asked the staff to prepare it medium spicy, which turned out to be the perfect call!
The hot and sour broth was wonderfully aromatic, loaded with lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves, and juicy pieces of seafood. Requesting a medium kick allowed us to fully appreciate the complex herbs and refreshing citrus notes without overwhelming our palates—making every spoon comforting and delicious.
Panang Curry Chicken (150 THB)
Another absolute crowd-pleaser on our table was Panang Gai, a rich and creamy Thai curry that was so good we couldn’t resist ordering two portions of it! The thick, fragrant sauce—infused with coconut cream, sweet basil, and a subtle hint of kaffir lime—coated the tender sliced chicken beautifully. It was incredibly flavorful, wonderfully addictive, and paired to perfection with steamed Jasmine rice (30 THB per bowl).
Thai Sour Curry with Fish Fillet (250 THB)
For a true taste of authentic Southern Thai flavors, we opted for Gaeng Som Pla (Southern Thai Sour Fish Curry). Served in a clear, vibrant orange-yellow broth infused with fresh turmeric and tamarind, this dish delivers an unmistakable hot-and-sour punch. Packed with tender chunks of fresh fish fillet and crunchy pickled bamboo shoots, it’s an intensely aromatic soup that pairs amazingly well with steamed Jasmine rice!
Stir-Fried Asparagus with Shrimps (180 THB)
If you order this in Thailand, look on the menu for Pad Asparagus Goong. We kicked off our dinner with a classic non-spicy favorite: stir-fried asparagus with fresh shrimps. The asparagus was cooked to perfection—bright green, tender, yet delightfully crunchy with every bite. The shrimps were deliciously fresh, sweet, and flavorful. Because it has no chili heat at all, this mild and delicate dish is ideal for anyone who prefers non-spicy Thai food. Pairing it with a side of warm Jasmine rice is absolute perfection, as the light sauce soaks right into the rice!
Stir-Fried Thai Sukiyaki Seafood (120 THB)
Another fantastic dish to share with friends is Suki Hang Talay (the dry, stir-fried version of Thai sukiyaki). Unlike the soup variation, this dish features delicate glass noodles stir-fried over high heat with egg, fresh morning glory, tender squid rings, and juicy shrimp.
It offers a wonderful balance of textures—chewy noodles, crunchy greens, and fresh seafood—all coated in a rich, savory sukiyaki sauce. Best of all, it’s served non-spicy by default, making it great for everyone (though you can always sprinkle some dried chili flakes on top for an extra kick).
Stir-Fried Sweet & Sour Seafood (250 THB)
To round out our meal, we tried Pad Priew Wan Talay, a colorful stir-fry packed with fresh vegetables and a generous portion of mixed seafood, including crab, tender squid, and juicy shrimp. The crunchy cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions complemented the tangy, well-balanced sauce brilliantly.
This dish comes completely non-spicy, making it pure comfort food. However, since we love a bit of heat, we ended up adding our own chili flakes right at the table to tune it to our exact taste!
Parking, Payment Methods & Prices
Getting here is very convenient as the restaurant provides dedicated car parking, making it stress-free if you’re driving up. For payments, cash, credit cards, and Thai QR code payments (super convenient for locals and expats) are all accepted.
Please Note: Overall, prices are very reasonable for Patong, with main stir-fry dishes starting at 150 THB and whole seafood or BBQ items going up depending on your choice of protein. (Just keep in mind that a 10% service charge is added to the bill).
