Kannya Phuket Restaurant: Great Southern Thai Food by One Chun
Kannya Phuket: Authentic Southern Thai Restaurant in Old Town
Kannya Phuket Restaurant (กันยา) is already establishing itself as one of the best Thai restaurants in Phuket, serving authentic Southern Thai food in the heart of Old Phuket Town. Opened in April 2026, it is the newest creation of Khun Prang—the visionary owner behind the acclaimed One Chun and Chom Chan restaurants. Located on Thep Krasattri Road right next door to One Chun and just 100 meters from Thalang Road, Kannya Phuket Restaurant was created as a seamless extension of her iconic dining spots, bringing the same celebrated culinary heritage to a fresh setting.
Khun Prang designed this space with a very practical purpose: One Chun is often fully booked with long wait times, so Kannya Phuket Restaurant gives visitors an immediate, equally delicious option right next door. While the menu at Kannya is slightly more streamlined compared to One Chun’s extensive list, the core recipes, spice levels, and rich flavor profiles remain virtually identical. Although it is a brand-new opening and hasn’t been listed in the Michelin Guide Phuket just yet, given its outstanding quality and pedigree, it is surely only a matter of time before it receives its well-deserved recognition.
Set inside a beautifully restored, traditional 3-floor Sino-Portuguese shop-house, the interior features warm wooden accents and a cozy, homey vibe across all three levels.
What Does “Kannya” Mean?
In Thai, the word Kannya (กันยา) carries a lovely meaning. It translates to “Virgo” (the zodiac sign) as well as “maiden” or “young woman.” It is also the root word for Kanyayon, which means September in Thai.
Inside Kannya: Design & Vibe
Walking inside Kannya Phuket Restaurant feels like stepping into a stylish friend’s home. The original building was thoughtfully restored into a dining space while preserving its authentic Sino-Portuguese residential elements—including warm dark-wood paneling, traditional arched windows, and a stunning wooden spiral staircase.
From the street, you are welcomed by two pea-green entrance doors accented with gold trim. As soon as you step onto the green-and-white checkered tile floor, the eye-catching bar area immediately draws your attention. It features a sleek counter with seven tall wooden high-chairs, backed by a striking floor-to-ceiling mural depicting a tiger surrounded by vibrant tropical flowers and leaves.
The main ground-floor dining room holds eight tables in various shapes, paired with comfortable wooden chairs and lush potted plants that add a fresh touch of greenery. Two round wooden tables inlaid with rich green tiles perfectly echo the tropical aesthetic, while a grand wooden spiral staircase leads to the upper levels.
Upstairs, the second floor offers a more intimate dining space with six tables and lovely views looking out onto the streets of Old Phuket Town. While the third floor is currently closed, it is set to open in time for the high season, maintaining the exact same warm, homey design across all three levels.

To complement the food, Kannya offers a thoughtful beverage menu. Crab Curry with Betel Leaves (490 Baht)
Gaeng Poo Bai Cha-phlu (แกงปูใบชะพลู) — A classic Southern Thai delicacy featuring generous chunks of fresh crab meat simmered in a rich, velvety coconut curry broth infused with aromatic betel leaves. Served alongside rice vermicelli noodles and a crispy herbal fritter, it balances vibrant herbal notes with a smooth, fiery kick.
Stir-Fried Chinese Kale with Salted Fish (175 Baht)
Phad Kana Pla Khem (ผัดคะน้าปลาเค็ม) — A flavorful, savory stir-fry of crisp Chinese kale stems and leafy greens tossed with aromatic garlic, fresh chilies, and savory bites of salted fish. The rich umami profile of the fish complements the bitter crunch of the greens, making it a perfectly balanced side dish.
Red Curry with Roasted Duck (295 Baht)
Gaeng Phed Ped Yang (แกงเผ็ดเป็ดย่าง) — A rich and fragrant Thai curry featuring tender slices of roasted duck with beautifully crispy skin, bathed in a creamy, red coconut broth. Balanced with sweet pineapple chunks and fresh cherry tomatoes, the dish harmonizes savory, spicy, and tangy flavors into an unforgettable Southern Thai classic.
