Kata Beach in Phuket Thailand

Kata beach, on the west coast of the island, is one of the most popular beach in Phuket, located 20 minutes from the famous and crowded Patong beach.
This beautiful u-shaped beach enjoys has velvety sand and a warm sea with different tints of blue. Surprisingly, in the northern part of the beach, there is a small island called Koh Puu, which is a good place for taking stunning photos at sunset. This is one of my favorite spot for taking photos obviously.

Kata beach is located between the small but beautiful Kata Noi beach, and the longer Karon beach. This Phuket beach is mostly visited by families and couples who like to stay away from chaotic places. Around Kata, there is a good choice of restaurants, hotels, and shops. That’s why this is an ideal destination for families! On Kata beach there are 2 designated areas where you can rent umbrellas and beach loungers. In case you can choose to stay out of this managed area.

Beach activities

There are several beach activities on Kata beach. The most popular and requested are the parasailing and banana activities. They are fun to do because they convey a unique emotion that you will not forget.
Unfortunately there are also the inevitable and noisy jet skis, but not recommended for safety reasons. Lately there are areas designed with floating buoys where jet skies are not allowed to enter. So, you are free to swim without getting run over!

If you are looking for something more relaxing, what more than a paddle board or a canoe. The northern part of the beach, near the island, offers wonderful views. So, don’t waste time, go! There are a few surf shops on the beach. So, you can rent a surfboard even though they can teach you the basic. It’s fun to practice!

Where to Eat in Kata Beach?

All along the beach there are some great restaurants in the south end which is often crowded during the high season. In the northern part of Kata beach there is also a handful of Thai restaurants set right on the sand, under the shade of trees, where tourists love to hang for a meal. The price of food is more cheap obviously.

Pomodoro Italian Restaurant

If you are looking for an authentic Italian restaurant, I advise Pomodoro Italian restaurant. It is not relatively near the beach, but the food is excellent!
It is open from midday till late. Furthermore, they are doing delivery service. So, do not hesitate!

Low Season

During low season (May to October) the beach is very quiet and frequented by surfers riding the waves on Kata Bay. For your own safety, please respect the red flags placed by lifeguards and only swim where it is allowed. Surprisingly, in this season there are strong and dangerous currents. Most of the restaurants along the beach are closed, so, don’t be surprised!

Where to stay in Kata Beach?

Kata beach is surrounded by a wide choice of hotels and resorts. So, you are spoiled for choice! Beyond Resort Kata is the only one big hotel with the right access to the beach. In fact, with its strategic location right on Kata beach this hotel is very popular.

Beyond Resort Kata

Club Med Phuket is an immense all-inclusive resort set on a 25-hectare overlooking the sea, but it does not have the right access to the beach. If you are looking for a 5-star resort, I should mention the luxurious Kata Rocks! Set in a hill offers a fantastic view towards ocean, especially at sunset. It doesn’t come cheap obviously!

Anyway around Kata there is a big Hotels choice to stay, from the highest to the lowest price. So, take time and choose the best one!
