Patong Sunset View Restaurant
A Restaurant With an Excellent Vista of Patong Beach
Patong Sunset View is an exceptional casual dining spot where you can relish delectable cuisine while taking in a breathtaking panoramic vista of Patong Beach, particularly at sunset. Perched on the Patong hillside and surrounded by lush tropical foliage, it offers an unparalleled outlook over the Andaman Sea. From the terrace, you can enjoy a full panoramic view of the entire city lighting up at twilight, with landmarks like the iconic Jungceylon Shopping Center clearly visible on the right. At the start of 2024, the restaurant earned the “EXCELLENT VIEW” accolade from Restaurant GURU—a well-deserved recognition for its outstanding setting.
An Insider’s Perspective
Having lived just 200 meters away, I’ve had the pleasure of watching Patong Sunset View evolve from day one. The restaurant soft-opened in September 2017 as a quiet, hidden gem unknown to tourists, followed by its grand opening in November. Back then, the layout was much simpler—the terrace held only a handful of tables, with a few high chairs lined up right along the railing for front-row sunset views. It was completely open-air under the stars, long before the protective roof was added the following year ahead of the rainy season.
After I shared the first photos on my Facebook page, my inbox flooded with followers asking for the location and name of this secret spot. By the very next high season, word had spread, and the restaurant became an instant hit with travelers. To this day, it’s deeply rewarding when readers message me to thank me for introducing them to this incredible venue!
The restaurant has a capacity of 60 seats on the terrace and additional seating indoors. It is an ideal spot to relax, have dinner, and enjoy a stunning sunset over the sea, whether with a loved one or friends. For the best experience, consider reserving a table at the front of the balcony to enjoy the fantastic view.
New Year’s Eve from Above
If you’re planning to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Phuket, reserving a table at the front of the balcony months in advance is a must. From this height, you get an unobstructed, sweeping view of the entire Patong Beach fireworks show at midnight. As a photographer living just around the corner, I’ve been lucky enough to document this spectacular event from the terrace—it is hands down the best and most exclusive perspective of the fireworks in all of Patong!
Where is The Restaurant Located and How To Get There?
The restaurant is situated on Hasippee Road, high on the hillside of Patong. To reach the restaurant, take either the route from Nanai Road or the way across the Wang Kee Waterfall route, driving roughly 1.5 kilometers uphill until you arrive.
What To Order
At Patong Sunset View, you’ll find an extensive menu featuring a wide range of European and Thai dishes at great prices. The detailed menu includes photos and item descriptions in Thai, English, Chinese, and Russian to cater to all guests. The drink selection boasts Thai beers, cocktails, smoothies, juices, wine, and whiskey. From starters to desserts, the menu encompasses a variety of options, including BBQ Back Ribs (700g) with French fries and Lamb Chops with asparagus and roast potatoes, both of which perfectly complement a glass of red wine thanks to their tenderness and flavor.
If you’re a steak enthusiast, go for the Rib Eye (250g) or the T-Bone (300g), prepared to your preferred doneness and served with French fries. Both are tender, succulent cuts that are an ideal match for a bold red wine.

A hearty western classic with a delightful Thai twist. Featuring a tender, juicy grilled pork chop cooked to perfection, this dish is served with sweet green peas, crispy golden French fries, grilled pineapple, classic apple sauce, and a spicy, tangy Nam Jim Jaew dipping sauce for an extra kick of local flavor.

For those craving a wholesome European-style meal, this dish offers generous, lightly seared chicken breast cutlets seasoned with aromatic herbs. Cooked to stay tender and juicy, it comes served with a generous side of crispy golden French fries, savory gravy, and a creamy dip—making it a satisfying, high-protein option for lunch or dinner.
The Thai food at Patong Sunset View is excellent for two reasons. Firstly, it is crafted with fresh, top-quality ingredients daily. Secondly, the restaurant meticulously prepares each dish using authentic Thai recipes and traditional cooking methods, making it delicious. The extensive menu features spicy salads, soups, seafood, sweet and sour dishes, and spicy delicacies.
Authentic Isaan Specialties
Thai people highly value the Isaan menu, which includes dry, spicy, and red ants egg-infused dishes, along with ample amounts of fermented fish (Pla Ra). It’s not simple to find Isaan delicacies in Patong, but at Patong Sunset View, you can taste the original recipes made according to tradition.
Isaan Wild Mushroom & Red Ant Eggs Soup (250 THB)
For foodies seeking a genuine taste of Isaan (Northeastern Thailand), this traditional soup is a must-try rare delicacy. Packed with earthy local mushrooms, aromatic Thai herbs, and a rich, herbal broth, it comes topped with a generous portion of red ant eggs (Kai Mod Dang). Having tried it personally, I can say it’s genuinely delicious—the ant eggs pop softly in your mouth, releasing a subtle, refreshing acidity that perfectly balances the savory herbal base.
Stir-Fried Shrimp with Garlic & Chili (350 THB)
This chef-recommended Thai dish tantalizes with a fragrant aroma, ultra-fresh shrimp, and aromatic herbs, all served alongside a full-flavored seafood dipping sauce. It’s hard not to love a crowd-pleaser like this!
Chicken Green Curry & Tom Kha Kai (189 THB)
These two classic Thai favorites offer milder, comforting flavors. Prepared with rich coconut milk, tender chicken, and fragrant Thai herbs, they are served with steamed rice—a perfect choice for anyone seeking delicate and subtle local aromas.
Chicken Massaman Curry (249 THB)
A rich, mildly spiced Southern Thai classic that hits all the right comfort nodes. Slow-cooked to perfection, this fragrant curry blends aromatic spices with creamy coconut milk, tender chicken pieces, soft potatoes, and crunchy roasted peanuts. It’s an ideal choice if you prefer a deeply flavorful, warm dish without intense chili heat.
Stir-Fried Chicken with Garlic & Pepper (159 THB)
A classic Thai comfort dish featuring tender bite-sized pieces of chicken wok-fried to perfection with ground black pepper and an abundance of crispy golden garlic. Garnished with fresh herbs and delicate edible flowers, it is served on a modern leaf-patterned dish alongside a sweet chili dipping sauce—a flavorful, non-spicy favorite that pairs wonderfully with steamed jasmine rice.
Thai-Style Spaghetti Seafood (269 THB)
A must-try fusion dish loaded with fresh prawns and squid. For the ultimate dining experience, opt for the spicier version—it truly brings out the vibrant freshness of the seafood and the fragrance of sweet basil.
Thai Sweet & Sour Beef (199 THB)
A vibrant Thai stir-fry featuring tender slices of beef wok-tossed in a sweet and tangy tomato sauce. Packed with fresh cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, pineapple, and crisp spring onions, this colorful, non-spicy favorite delivers a delicious balance of savory and fruity flavors.
Atmosphere & Service
The staff is warm, attentive, and fluent in English, ensuring you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. It’s widely considered one of the best spots to celebrate a birthday in Patong—both locals and tourists book well in advance for their special occasions. The staff brings out the cake with lively “Happy Birthday” music, creating a fun and joyful vibe for everyone on the terrace. You will likely meet Khun Pooky, the friendly owner, who often greets guests and offers personalized menu recommendations.
Pro tip for photography lovers
As someone who comes here regularly with a camera, I recommend arriving around 6:00 PM. It’s the perfect window to capture the vibrant sky as it shifts into the golden hour, followed by the twilight glow when the bay lights up. During the high season (November to April), you’ll also see cruise ships anchored in the bay alongside local fishing boats, adding a wonderful touch to the landscape.
