Greenheart Garden Phuket: Farm-to-Fork Dining on Kata Hill
Organic Thai Food & Panoramic Sea Views Above Kata
Greenheart Garden Phuket is a secluded, chemical-free farm-to-fork restaurant perched 185 meters high on the lush hills, located just 3 kilometers from Kata Beach in Phuket. Spanning a massive 48-rai organic property, two open-air wooden terraces offer breathtaking panoramic views of the Andaman Sea, Kata Bay, and the iconic Koh Pu (Crab Island) surrounded by lush rainforest.
Looking towards the north while facing the open ocean, you can even catch a glimpse of the upper portion of the iconic Big Buddha, sitting proudly at the summit of Nak Kerd Hill.
Renowned for its authentic Southern Thai cuisine, every dish is prepared using fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs harvested straight from the family’s working farm and on-site organic Kitchen Garden.
Having lived in Phuket since 2011, I’ve visited countless local spots, but this is without a doubt one of the best local Thai restaurants in Phuket for a sustainable, authentic dining experience.
Greenheart Garden Phuket: Atmosphere, Sunsets & Best Time to Visit
Built across two open-air wooden terraces, this hilltop farm-to-table spot seamlessly integrates natural materials from the surrounding forest, featuring rustic coconut-leaf roofing, sturdy bamboo columns, and woven bamboo light fixtures. It’s an ideal escape for couples, small groups, and friends looking to enjoy authentic Thai cuisine surrounded by nature, far away from the bustling streets of Kata Beach.
If you plan to visit for lunch, I recommend arriving early to beat the lunch crowds. Arriving early gives you the entire space to yourself, allowing you to take pristine photos without people in the frame and soak in the peaceful sounds of the forest, the cool ocean breeze, and drifting white clouds.
For a romantic evening, Greenheart Garden is undeniably one of the best spots in Phuket to enjoy breathtaking sunsets and fresh, clean air up on Kata Hill. Plan to arrive around 5:30 PM, order a fresh coconut harvested directly from their farm, and find a cozy spot on the terrace as the day winds down. For the absolute best seat in the house, head to the iconic thatched gazebo—fitted with six rustic wooden stools along a curved counter—offering front-row seats to the Andaman Sea.
As the sun dips below the horizon, the sky lights up with brilliant shades of yellow, purple, and pink before fading into the cool blue hour. Watching the coastline of Kata Beach light up alongside the distant glow of fishing boats on the Andaman Sea is easily one of the most picture-perfect experiences on the island.
The Story Behind Greenheart Garden: A Pure Organic Farm
When I first moved to Phuket back in 2011, I quickly realized that finding true, chemical-free farm-to-fork dining was like hunting for hidden treasure. That’s why sitting down with Khun Mae Luan, together with her daughter Khun Bowy and her son Khun Que, the heart and soul behind Greenheart Garden Phuket, felt like discovering a whole new side of the island—one deeply rooted in family, sustainability, and real connection to the land.
Over a fresh healthy smoothie, they shared the story of how it all began. Years ago, Mae Luan’s father ran a traditional single-crop farm. Like so many local farmers at the time, it was a high-risk gamble—months of backbreaking labor tied to a single annual harvest, leaving the family completely at the mercy of the elements and market swings.
Everything shifted when they embraced King Rama IX’s Sufficiency Economy Philosophy. Instead of relying on a single crop, they transformed their plot into a thriving, self-sustaining organic farm. By diversifying their crops, the land started producing fresh yields year-round. What was once a source of constant uncertainty became a resilient, flourishing ecosystem built on care, balance, and harmony with nature.
As you walk through the lush grounds, you’ll notice official educational learning stations detailing their sustainable practices. One board outlines their Kitchen Garden and crop rotation technique—alternating nitrogen-fixing legumes, leafy greens, and root vegetables across growing cycles. Supported by the Phuket Provincial Agricultural Office, this natural system enriches the soil, prevents pest accumulation, and completely eliminates the need for chemical fertilizers. It’s concrete proof of how the family puts ecological theory into practice every day.
The real magic happened when the family started noticing just how incredible their fresh produce tasted—crisp, vibrant, and packed with flavor that only chemical-free soil can deliver. That’s when Mae Luan had a moment of inspiration: Why keep all this goodness to themselves?
That simple question birthed Greenheart Garden Restaurant—a true farm-to-fork experience driven by homegrown, chemical-free ingredients.
Just past the lush bamboo entrance, on the right side of the pathway, sits the original open-air kitchen where the restaurant’s journey truly began. Looking around this traditional space, you’ll notice rustic heavy stone mortars and pestles alongside classic Thai cooking utensils on display—the very tools used to pound fresh herbs, chilies, and green papaya for authentic local dishes.
Khun Que shared a fascinating story about how quickly this humble spot evolved. In the beginning, they only prepared traditional Khanom Jeen (Thai rice noodles), serving roughly 20 to 30 portions a day to local neighbors.
Everything changed overnight when local Thai YouTubers and food influencers discovered the farm and posted videos of their meals. Almost instantly, daily visitors skyrocketed to over 300 people a day! The overwhelming rush caught the family completely off guard. With only a tiny team, they struggled to keep up—guests were happily sitting under tree branches, along garden steps, or wherever they could find a spot just to enjoy a bowl of fresh noodles.
Realizing they needed a proper space to welcome everyone, the family gathered to plan their next step. That turning point sparked the expansion of Greenheart Garden—first constructing the main open-air terrace with sweeping ocean views, followed by the second wooden deck that greets visitors today.
Just a short 100-meter walk from the main restaurant terrace into the heart of the farm, you can explore the organic grounds up close. Here, alongside tropical fruit trees, lush climbing vines of fresh black pepper (Phrik Thai / พริกไทย) thrive in the rich, chemical-free soil, hanging with dense clusters of raw green peppercorns that are harvested directly for the kitchen’s signature Southern Thai curries and stir-fries.
Having lived here for well over a decade, I’ve seen plenty of spots claim the “farm-to-fork” title, but Mae Luan, Khun Bowy, and Khun Que live it every single day. Walking through the garden, you’ll see the exact herbs, fruits, and vegetables that end up on your plate just hours—sometimes minutes—later. Every meal is lovingly prepared, turning harvested crops into dishes that make you feel like you’re being fed by family.
A True Test of a Pure Habitat
One lovely detail that genuinely surprised me during my visit and chat with Khun Que is that Greenheart Garden Phuket doesn’t farm bees artificially. They simply built and placed suitable wooden hives among the greenery, and local wild bees moved in completely on their own, choosing them as their home.
Their decision to settle here is no coincidence. Bees only thrive in healthy environments, making their presence the ultimate proof that the land of this organic restaurant is a pure, unspoiled ecosystem that is 100% free of pesticides and chemicals. If chemical products were ever used, the bees would leave immediately!
In the garden right near the restaurant entrance, you can spot two native species that have made these hives their home:
- Stingless Bees – Channarong (Meliponini): Tiny in size (just 3–5 mm), they produce a rare, highly prized honey with a delightful, slightly tangy finish, harvested just once a year.
- Asian Honeybee – Phueng Phrong (Apis cerana): The classic honeybee native to Asia. Gentle and hard-working, they are perfect pollinators for local fruit trees and jungle flora, producing delicious honey 2 to 3 times a year.
Why is their presence so vital for the local ecosystem?
Having these two species working side-by-side is essential for the health of both the farm and the surrounding rainforest:
- Complementary Pollination: The tiny Channarong pollinate delicate micro-flowers, herbs, and undergrowth, while the larger Phueng Phrong take care of big tree blossoms across the canopy.
- Perfect Climate Adaptation: Both are native Thai species, naturally adapted to the island’s tropical heat and high humidity.
- Ingenious Defenses (Channarong): The stingless bees protect their colony by sealing the hive with propolis, leaving only a small tube doorway to keep out predators like weaver ants and hornets.
If you stop by for a meal, make sure to pick up a jar of their natural honey—it is truly something special and well worth taking home!

What I tried: My Dining Experience
After picking my favorite table on the panoramic terrace, the warm and smiling staff brought me the menu within seconds—a swift, attentive gesture that immediately set a welcoming tone for the meal. Since it was a bright, sunny afternoon, I started with a fresh, ice-cold coconut from their farm to cool down while browsing the extensive menu.
Choosing what to eat was no easy task; the menu is filled with vibrant, appetite-inducing food photography that makes almost every dish look irresistible. After taking my time to explore the options, I settled on a classic Southern staple:
Stir-Fried Pork Belly with Salt (250 Baht)
Moo Kua Klua (หมูคั่วเกลือ) — A beloved local classic featuring thick cuts of succulent pork belly, stir-fried over high heat with sea salt, whole garlic cloves, and fresh chilies until crisp on the outside and tender within. Beautifully presented on a vibrant green banana leaf inside a hand-carved wooden dish—a delightful touch of organic design instead of generic white tableware—and garnished with crisp lettuce and a deep blue butterfly pea flower, delivering a rich, savory, and visually stunning bite. What a great choice!
Southern Style Prawns Fritters (195 Baht)
Bi-Uat (เบือทอดภูเก็ต) — A legendary Phuket appetizer featuring fresh, succulent prawns embedded on local wild betel leaves (Bai Cha-phlu), lightly battered and fried to perfection. Arranged beautifully like a flower on a green banana leaf over a rustic wooden platter, each leaf offers an addictive, crispy crunch paired with tender shrimp. It comes served with a rich, sweet and tangy homemade dry tamarind dipping sauce topped with crushed peanuts that complements the earthy herbs brilliantly. Another absolute winner!
Fried Rice with Crispy Fish (165 Baht)
Khao Pad Bon Khao Pla Ching Chang (ข้าวผัดบนเขาปลาฉิ้งฉ้าง) — A signature hilltop favorite featuring fragrant fried rice crowned with a striking blue butterfly pea flower. Beautifully presented on a vibrant green banana leaf over a rustic woven tray, it comes accompanied by crisp local anchovies (Pla Ching Chang), fresh cucumber slices, and a fresh lime wedge. Squeezing the lime over the rice brings out a brilliant balance of savory, salty, and zesty flavors with an irresistible crunch in every bite. Simply delicious!
Deep Fried Mushroom (145 Baht)
Hed Thod (เห็ดทอด) — A irresistible starter featuring fresh, organic mushrooms coated in a light batter and fried to a golden, delicate crispness. Served inside a traditional woven basket lined with a fresh banana leaf, each bite delivers an addictive crunch while keeping the mushrooms juicy on the inside. Paired with a sweet and tangy chili dipping sauce, it’s a light, savory bite that’s perfect for sharing while taking in the panoramic jungle views! (Photo above).
Mango Sticky Rice (Large Portion – 315 Baht)
Khao Niew Mamuang (ข้าวเหนียวมะม่วง) — A breathtakingly visual dish served on a traditional woven tray lined with a fresh banana leaf. It features two mounds of sweet coconut sticky rice—one classic white and one naturally dyed a striking blue using butterfly pea flowers—topped with toasted mung beans. Beside the rice sits a generous portion of sweet, perfectly ripe golden mango slices and a small glass jar of rich coconut cream. To top it off, the set comes with generous scoops of creamy coconut ice cream served inside a natural coconut shell and decorated with delicate pink flowers fresh from their garden. It was absolute perfection—sweet, refreshing, and deeply satisfying. Perfect for photography and for sharing with friends!

Butterfly Pea Lime Shaved Ice / Smoothie (115 Baht)
Nam Anchan Manao (น้ำอัญชันมะนาว) — A refreshing, highly photo-worthy herbal treat served in a traditional carved metal bowl (Khan) set inside a hand-woven bamboo basket with a handle. Made by pairing organic butterfly pea flower tea with freshly squeezed lime juice, it creates a magical natural reaction that transforms the icy drink from deep ocean blue into a striking magenta-purple. Crowned with a fresh butterfly pea blossom, a slice of lime, and a colorful paper umbrella, it offers a sweet, tangy, and ice-cold cool-down—making it an absolute must-order for photos against the lush jungle backdrop of Kata Hill!
