A Wonderful Weekend at Layana Resort in Koh Lanta Yai

Layana resort & Spa is one of the most luxurious hotel located on the west side of Koh Lanta Yai in Krabi Province. Open for nearly two decades, Layana Resort is one of the best hotels in Koh Lanta Yai. The luxurious 5-star resort with its superb design has 56 beautiful guest rooms with 6 different types to choose from. Nestled in a lush tropical garden, the resort has 2 infinity pools.
Layana Resort & Spa is a hotel awarded by Thailand’s Safety & Health Administration SHA Plus+ certification from the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

The superb Layana Resort boasts a bar and a restaurant overlooking the sea. It also features a well-stocked library and a well-equipped modern gym. Of course, a high-level spa is available for guests. But which 5-star hotels doesn’t have one nowadays!

This award-winning resort is popular for adults who are looking for a totally relaxing holiday. So, it is a perfect place for a honeymoon, an escape away from the crazy city life! Layana Resort is located right on Pra Ae beach. This is a long and sandy beach, particularly calm and silent.

The Location

Layana Resort has direct access to the beautiful Long beach (also called Pra Ae beach). Its strategic location offers to the guests spectacular sea views. Moreover, the horizon offers a look towards the famous Phi Phi Islands and the beautiful Rock Islands.

The sandy and soft beach is quite long, wide and well cleaned. So do not miss a nice walk early in the morning or during the sunset time. You will surely be surprised by watching the beautiful shades of the sky and the sea. The sound of the ocean and the birdsong creating a truly tropical atmosphere.

Layana Resort is located, as written above, in the west of the island so be ready to enjoy the spectacular sunsets. Sunsets are often incredibly colorful, releasing a strong explosion of light and colors (see photo). So don’t miss this moment of taking pictures or selfie just like I did.

When you show your photos to your loved ones or friends, they will surely be amazed and very jealous of your vacation. This is one of the reasons why Layana Resort is mostly frequented by adults. Of course, they wish to spend their holiday truly at the TOP.

Long beach or Pra Ae beach is very similar to some Phuket beaches. The beach remains mostly shaded by tall casuarina trees present throughout the beach. The Long beach is very similar to Nai Yang, Mai Khao and Sai Kaew beaches north of Phuket. It also looks a lot like the beautiful Bangtao and Kata beach. Finally, also to the popular Nai Harn beach because it is surprisingly similar.

The Beach Villa

Layana Resort has 6 private villas but only 3 overlooking the beautiful Pra Ae beach. Beach villas overlooking the Andaman Sea is the most requested by the guests. Of course, they have a higher cost than other rooms. But once you lie down on the comfortable sofà on the balcony with sea view, it all makes sense.

The fabulous 59 m² villa features modern Thai architecture surprisingly decorated with beautiful wooden furniture. Each is equipped with comfortable armchairs and sofas and a very comfortable large king-size bed. WI-FI connection is fast and there is a large flat-screen satellite TV and DVD player. The desk behind the bed is very useful for working with your laptop and there are many universal sockets to activate your equipment.

The toilet and indoor shower plus an outdoor shower is separated at the rear. There are 2 sinks with mirrors, soaps and many other services that a luxury bathroom can offer. Moreover, there is a large bathtub with mineral salts that have beneficial and relaxing properties for the body. Facilities include a coffee machine with different capsules. However, who of you don’t wish an early morning espresso!

Other amenities include water heater, safety deposit box, iron and ironing board, bathrobes and slippers, hair dryer: all the amenities you can expect from a luxury hotel. You can also order dinner in your room, it’s also very nice, but you would miss out on having dinner on this beautiful beach. Try both options anyway!

Upon my arrival at the Beach Villa, an inviting Layana Som Tum Chocolate was served to me by a professional staff. It is a typical fancy dessert of Layana Resort. Such a great holiday starts!

Swimming pools

Layana Resort has 2 stunning infinity pools. The seafront infinity pool is very beautiful and is of course the favorite by guest. Surrounded by green coconut palms overlooking the sea, which creates a truly tropical atmosphere.

There are comfortable sun beds and umbrellas with towels provided for guests. If you want to enjoy an unforgettable sunset, I recommend that you stay by the infinity pool while observing the beautiful colors of the sea and the sky. You will surely be speechless and don’t forget to take some selfies! (See photo).

The Wellness pool is located right next to the gym. The peculiarity of this pool is that it uses salt water treatment and has much less irritating substances than chlorinated pools. Naturally you will feel revitalized and purified without the harsh side effects of chlorine. Delicious snacks and energizing smoothies and freshly squeezed juices are served during your time by the pool. They are so delicious so try some! Opening hours: 6 am – 8 pm.

Sundowner Bar and Lounge

The Sundowner bar is a great place to socialize, talk and relax. Of course, it’s also a great place for working with your laptop or reading a book. Its seafront location makes it very attractive. Especially if you sit in the comfortable sofas overlooking the sea.

A highly professional team carefully prepares cocktails with a truly unique style. Of course, they also serve beers, soft drinks and refreshing fruit juices. So don’t be afraid to order a couple of drinks accompanied by some delicious snacks.

You will surely spend a truly unique moment of your vacation at Layana Resort, especially during the sunset. Yes, because there is no better place to admire the colorful sunsets of Koh Lanta. The bar opens from 10 a.m. until midnight!

SeaSky restaurant

The SeaSky is the only restaurant of the Layana Resort. This is located on the edge of the beach overlooking the sea offering guests a breathtaking view. You can choose an outdoor or in indoor seat. But who among you would not prefer the outdoor place by the beach!

From early in the morning the restaurant serves a delicious and rich breakfast. But do not come late otherwise you will lose the best table by the sea.

The SeaSky restaurant serves a wide variety of gourmet cuisine and serves carefully prepared Thai cuisine. Of course, it also serves international cuisine with daily specials. We tried an excellent Mediterranean signature menu with 5 courses.

• Fresh octopus salad
• Australian beef tartare
• Charcoal yellow fin tuna
• American beef fillet
• Chocolate lava cake

The next day we tried the Southern Thailand set for dinner. This set is very good and light. Leaving the good taste of Thai cuisine on your palate.

• Yam Mamuang Goong (Spicy green mango salad with cashew nuts and grilled prawns)
• Gai Yang Kamin (Grilled turmeric chicken with sticky rice)
• Tom Kha Gai (Creamy coconut chicken soup with lemongrass and ginger)
• Gaeng Som Pla (Sour spicy yellow curry with seabass)
• Khua Kling Moo (Dry pork curry with lemongrass, lime and chili)
• Khao Hom Mali ( Steamed jasmine rice)

SeaSky, the now known as the main fine restaurant overlooking the sea, is widely known as being one of the most fine restaurants in Koh Lanta. Chef Patrick and his talented team cook with passion and love. Moreover, they make sure each customer is having a good time.

Linger Longer Spa

The Linger Longer Spa is an award-winning spa with 5 treatment rooms and a such a great list of health treatments. The spa is located just a few steps from the Wellness pool in a really well-kept garden with relaxing Asian music.

2 well-designed treatment rooms have a jacuzzi and a private bathroom. Experienced and helpful therapists will be delighted to advise and assist you. With few rooms available, I recommend you to book your favorite treatment in advance because the Spa is often full. Opening hours: 10 am – 8 pm.

Sunset trip by Layana long tail boat

The sunset tour is organized by Layana resort team. This tour consists of visiting the beautiful and remote mangrove area with their private long tail boat. Try this afternoon excursion from about 4 p.m. and returning to the resort during sunset. It is truly a great experience to do.

Once there, you can also take a nice kayak ride. Of course the kayaks are made available to the resort. So take advantage of visiting the quiet brackish bays of this peaceful area.

If you’re lucky, you’ll also see spots where monkeys nibble on marine life – easy pickings at low tide. Unfortunately, on our tour we did not see the mangrove forest monkeys. After the exploration by kayak, you will enjoy a nice set of Thai snacks and a good chilled champagne. Of course this is included in the tour! Do not miss this wonderful trip, it is really must-try!
