One of the Phuket’s best snorkeling beach

Merlin beach is undoubtedly one of Phuket’s best snorkeling beaches located near Patong Beach on the west coast of the island. The beach remains quiet all-year round, despite being close to Patong beach which is predominantly crowded all year round. It is not hard to find unless you are a guest of the Phuket Marriott Resort Merlin Beach which ends up being the same.

Being a hidden beach and not visible from the road, many tourists miss it. Just before this large resort on the left side there is a small dirt road that leads to the beach. Take it and you will arrive there. You will immediately see a Thai massage hut, but now these are located in all Phuket beaches.

This beach is touched in a silent bay with crystal clear blue water and a soft sand. Merlin beach is not really a swimming beach because is shallow, but it is one the best place for snorkeling in Phuket. Try it for yourself!

Unfortunately the beach is not managed with umbrellas and beach chairs and there are no trees to shelter from the strong sun rays. Probably this is one of the main reason why it remains a quiet beach that retains its charm. There are no beach activities for the moment, but sometimes you can find canoes of the resort. The famous Freedom beach is located behind the headland to the south, so don’t hesitate to rent a canoe to see its unique crystal clear waters. It is really worth it!

On the hill at the southern end of the beach, following a flight of stairs, you will find a small and welcoming restaurant. The Little Tiger restaurant with a superb view of Merlin beach. The restaurant serves Thai food at a good price and is also a great place to enjoy sunset drinks. During the high season, I often come to this area to take photos also to enjoy a drink with a fabulous sea view! The green hills and the turquoise water give a picturesque touch to this silent bay. You may not know but on the opposite side less than 200 meters away you will find the hidden Tri Trang beach. Tri Trang beach is very similar to Merlin beach. This is a much longer and shaded by tall coconut trees making a truly tropical atmosphere. It is perfect for spending hours in total relaxation and is also excellent for snorkeling!

A 15-minute by walking will take you to Paradise beach located just behind the hill. The beach remains hidden but is very popular for its full moon parties. Patong, Karon and Kata beach is located further away from Merlin beach and in this case you should take a taxi to reach them. You will always find taxis right in the front of the entrance to the prestigious Phuket Marriott Resort Merlin Beach ready to take you to your destination.
